One of Africa’s Biggest Charity Concert Features International A-List Line-Up
Possibly Africa’s biggest online charity concert, the Music For Meals Concert will air at 1PM EST on Friday, October 30 on MILITIA BROADCAST and its social media channels reaching almost 16 million people. The lineup is impressive with world-renowned acts including Dave Matthews of the Dave Matthews Band, Tom Morello, and local acts, including Springbok Nude Girls, Prime Circle, Karen Zoid, Watershed and The Parlotones, all performing live. Tickets are $5.99 and will be sold here.
The concert is the culmination of a series of smaller live-streamed fundraising performances by some of the most well known South African musicians. In April 2020 Ellerman House, Fyn Restaurant and Peter Tempelhoff launched Music for Meals, a groundbreaking community initiative combatting COVID-19 related hunger in Cape Town. During the height of the pandemic and inspired by World Central Kitchen, the partners turned their kitchens into a lifeline for hungry communities. Now together with UCOOK, South Africa’s most popular meal kit, the initiative continues to distribute hot meals to Cape Town communities in need. Funds raised by the Music for Meals Concert will go towards short-term crisis relief from the devastation caused by COVID-19 together with long-term food security initiatives. The goal is to raise 10 million South African Rand in order to protect Cape Town’s communities from further COVID-19 related malnutrition and poverty and to foster long-term, sustainable community programs. Under the banner of the Click Foundation’s Click123 Disaster Relief Fund, the Music for Meals Concert will immediately support a number of community based initiatives targeted at providing regular meals and food parcels to communities, and in particular children, in need. Long-term partnerships will focus on the UCOOK PEDI Farming program and Click Foundation’s online literacy program, which reaches over 100,000 children in 162 areas across 4 provinces. Donations can be made via www.musicformeals.co.za and a portion of the ticket sales will also be donated to Music for Meals.
Notes to Editor Music for Meals is a joint initiative between Ellerman House, UCOOK, FYN Restaurant, Peter Tempelhoff, rain and Militia Broadcast. Ellerman House Ellerman House is the quintessential urban retreat for discerning luxury travelers wanting to experience the very best of South Africa. Located in Bantry Bay, Cape Town it offers spectacular Atlantic Ocean views against the dramatic backdrop of Lion's Head. Clifton's beaches are within walking distance, while the best local attractions are a 10-minute drive away. Originally a private residence, the historic Cape Edwardian-style mansion has 11 rooms and 2 suites, two ultra-modern 3-bedroom villas, the tranquil Ellerman House Spa and terraced indigenous gardens. The Ellerman House Wine Gallery, a cellar for the hotel's 7500-bottle collection of South African vintage wines, offers an interactive, experiential journey into the world of wine. Enhancing the entire property is the owner's extensive collection of original South African art. Modern cuisine that reflects the best of local and seasonal flavors, excellent wine pairings, generous-hearted hospitality, intimate music storyteller sessions and tailor-made excursions add up to a world-class guest experience that remains authentically South African. UCOOK UCOOK is South Africa’s largest meal-kit delivery service with over 200 000 deliveries a month and a significant social following. They believe food has the power to change the way we live, and are committed to making a positive impact on the food system through enterprise development and improving food security. They are responsible for marketing Music for Meals across their channels, and allocating funds towards long-term solutions to unemployment and food security. FYN Restaurant A little piece of Manhattan in Cape Town, FYN is a cutting-edge space on the fifth floor of a repurposed building just off historic Church Square. A glass wall ensures that views of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head are sensational (your reward for lunch, rather than the more-in-demand dinner). Sophisticated, but not shouty, the interiors of the 60-seat restaurant are as slick as the food and service. Boundaries between the kitchen and diners are consciously blurred—the pastry section is slap-bang in the center of the room, for instance—echoing the Japanese-African cooking. Peter Tempelhoff Peter Tempelhoff is a celebrated member of Relais & Châteaux’s World Culinary Council and a chef with over 20 years of experience in Michelin-starred Relais & Châteaux restaurants across the culinary capitals of the world, including Eleven Madison Park in New York City (3*), Le Pré Catelan in Paris (3*) and Arzak in San Sebastián (3*). As the owner of FYN, his hugely successful urban fine dining eatery, he has his finger firmly on the pulse of Cape Town’s dynamic local food scene. In addition, Tempelhoff brings global vision from the World Culinary Council, a collection of 19 gourmands selected from over 560 Relais & Châteaux properties across the globe who set benchmarks in the industry for others to follow. rain rain is the fastest growing data network in South Africa, reaching more than 2100 towers in metro areas in just over a year. Coverage is quickly expanding and will consist of more than 5000 towers over the next three years, providing high-speed affordable data to the vast majority of South Africans. Militia Broadcast Militia Broadcast are masters in the industry. Their team has produced shows for Drake, Shakira and Coldplay. In fact Eban, the co-founder of Militia Broadcasting has been ranked no 12 in the world for live-streaming concerts.
